How can I properly dispose of a worn American Flag?

American Legion Post 100 (Virginia Beach) conducts an unserviceable flag ceremony on Flag Day (June 14th) for the veteran residents of Our Lady of Perpetual Help assisted living facility on Princess Anne Rd.  They begin collecting unserviceable flags at Our Lady of Perpetual Help 4560 Princess Anne Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23462, phone (757) 495-4211 approximately a week prior to Flag Day.

If you an unserviceable flag in hand and do not wish to wait until early June, you may visit Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 392, 2408 Bowland Pkwy just off London Bridge Rd (behind the Blue Horseshoe Tattoo).  They have a receptacle outside their main entrance exclusively for unserviceable flags - looks like a trash can, but has big sign that says "Unserviceable Flags Only”.
